Disclaimer: I have a linksys router, and that's probably the issue.
Hello! I'm trying to connect my iPhone to my VPN connection through a laptop I have at home running EasyVPN. I've done this before for the purpose of using the optimum app outside of my house. This time, it doesnt seem to be working well.
I followed this guide:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1132519
When I "connect to VPN" from my iphone, I will only get a connection about 1 in 10 tries. Then i'll try later and it'll work like 50% of the time. Each try, EasyVPN assigns a different IP address to my iPhone, and it's seems to be pretty random for which IP address will "work." When the connection doesn't work, it gets hung up here:
Incoming call... Address given to client = 192.168.1.9
PPTP incoming call in progress from '192.168.1.1'...
PPTP connection established.
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> socket[34:17]
then I eventually get an error that says "You were disconnected by the communication device. Try reconnecting." etc. The log error is:
LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Sat Aug 18 16:57:30 2012 : Connection terminated.
Sat Aug 18 16:57:30 2012 : PPTP disconnecting...
Sat Aug 18 16:57:30 2012 : PPTP disconnected
Also, when I try to connect to the VPN from a LAPTOP (osx lion/Mountin lion), it works every time, seamlessly connecting to each IP address in the range i've provided.
I'm guessing the problem is somewhere in my Linksys E1000 router. The troubleshooting I have looked up tells me to disable DHCP (on the LAN side). I haven't done that yet because I have no idea how to connect to the internet other than through automatic DHCP, and there are lots of people on this network.
I made sure the ports are open, IP range is within range of what the router gives out, username/passwords correct, etc. It's something more subtle that than because I DO connect sometimes. If anyone has any ideas, that'd be great. Thanks!
