My step dad gave me his old iPhone 3GS last night. When I brought it one and turned it on, it went through the language, country, wifi, iTunes, etc. So it "worked" but without service. That was fine because we could have just used it as a decoy for our 4 year old who always wants to play with my husband's iPhone.
I have an old dumb phone that isn't due for an upgrade until the beginning of the year. I was googling and thought I could just stick my dumb phone's SIM card in the iPhone and use it until my upgrade. I switched sims and now it says "no SIM card". I even switched back and it still says it. I also put my husband's iPhone SIM card in it and still nothing.
That's the least of my worries. I stupidly followed some directions on a website without knowing what I was doing and I did something that said "reset" "delete iPhone". Now when I turn on the phone, it goes through the language, country, wifi, but then tells me that it can't activate at this time.
So it's completely useless right now. Any ideas? I don't even care about getting the SIM card to work, I just want to get it back to where we can use apps and games for my son.
