I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5 and steadily there have been more and more bugs/glitches. It first started with me perpetually having one unread text message which won't go away (have gone through the whole thread and it still says unread and every time I open the messages app it scrolls to the thread with the "unread" message; can get annoying when you open the app to text someone else and it pops up a thread from another person). Also the volume during calls starts off really low for the first 10 seconds (and during the initial ringing) but then randomly fixes and increases.
Most recently I've had a problem where the Group Texting won't work; initially I couldn't send the text but now I can't receive texts from that thread either. If I turn my phone off and turn it back on I can send or receive ONE text but the next text gets stuck in the buffer. Also iMessage group texting works fine but if one person in the group doesn't have an iPhone I do not receive the text (though it sends fine to other people who have iPhones). This is my main problem as I frequently set up group meetings for school/etc through group texting.
I've tried doing a soft reset, hard reset, update/restore from backup, but nothing has helped.
I took the phone to the "geniuses" at the Apple Store and the only solution they could offer was to do a full reset and start fresh; however I am reluctant to do that as that would erase my whole texting history (which I've had for over two years) and would have to mess with settings/etc. all over again.
Anyone else have similar problems and found a way to fix it that wasn't essentially the old "format HDD and reinstall windows from scratch?"
