Hello everyone. I have a question if you guys wouldn't mind answering it for me. I'm currently using a unlocked iPhone 4 on Tracfone Wireless (Under the brand name Straight Talk Wireless) because I can't stand signing contracts and I'm actually pretty happy with the carrier considering I only pay about $50 a month but my phone is started to get pretty outdated and slow.
I bought the iPhone 4 on the cheap a few years back unlocked and then just ordered a SIM card from the straight talk website.
Anyways, I was thinking of upgrading to a iPhone 5S because I have enough Gamestop.com credit to get one after years of trading various things in during their promotions. My only question is can it be unlocked through some online unlocking service like I did with the iPhone 4?
I'm asking because I was reading the FAQ on their website and it says the following
Q: What service can I utilize on my iPhone?
A: This phone requires AT&T service.
Q: How/where do I activate my iPhone subsequent to purchase?
A: You will need to contact AT&T to activate your iPhone.
A friend told me I could just buy some AT&T sim card off eBay and that would activate the phone and then I could pay someone to unlock it. Is that true? Just wanting to make sure before I drop $500 on the phone + the cost of the unlock process.
