I've recently upgraded my system to 10.8.x, but have not plugged my 4S to it yet. So not sure if this issue affects me yet. However, I'm helping out a friend who is running into this issue. He just bought a new iMac (iMac14,2), with iTunes 11.1.3 installed. When he plugs his phone via USB in the back, nothing comes up (doesn't show in iTunes, so he can't even set it up as new). He unplugged the USB cable, and plugged it back in. But then he got some binging sound, and continues to bing until he unplugs the phone. And he gets a message "can't use this iPhone", or something like that. Not sure what is happening.
In this link http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591, Apple says iPhone works best when plugged into a USB 2.0 port. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the new iMacs equipped with USB 3.0 ports? So how do newer Mac owners suppose to troubleshoot something they can't do without USB 2.0? I will have to test my connection when I get home. I have an older Mac Pro with USB 2.0. So if it works for me, it would be hard to troubleshoot without a USB 3.0 port. Or rather can't troubleshoot at all, if this situation requires you to have USB 2.0. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
