Need to sync my iPhone with a new computer - help needed

Hello,

I have posted this also in the Apple.com community but haven't received an answer....

I'm sorry if this issue has been covered previously, but I can't seem to find an answer to my question.

I have an iPhone 4s, which for the past 2 years (and 2 before with 3s) I have been syncing and backing up to my iMac (G5 processor, running whatever the latest OS is on that platform), but now I cannot update iTunes on that PC as it is no longer supporting that OS. Without the latest iTunes I cannot sync my iPhone to back up calendar, contacts etc.

I am now using newer MacBook Pro running 10.6.8, and the latest iTunes. I would like to use this PC with my iPhone now, but when I go to create a back up (so that when I upgrade in a few weeks I can restore from the back up) iTunes tells me there are purchased items and apps on my phone which are not in the library and will not be re-added to the phone. I have logged in to iTunes with my Apple ID and downloaded all my apps and music to the laptop, but I still get the same message. If I decline both options iTunes goes through backing something up, but no contacts show in my address book, nor is anything in my calendar. The iPhone also does not show in iPhoto (to manually copy photos), nor are any photos imported.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do in order to get all the data that is on my iPhone copied to my MBP without erasing it all from the phone?

It would be really appreciated if anyone can take the time to answer this for me, and I thank you in advance for taking the time to help me out. If this is not something that can be done with iTunes, are there any other programs you can recommend?

In addition to the above I have today clicked on the option to download the missing content to iTunes from my phone, but there is still nothing showing in calendar, contacts or iPhoto. I have found on my MBP the folder containing the apparent back up of my phone, but this is only around 4GB, but my phone is showing as being around 12GB of data.

Thanks

Simon
