bricked iphone 3gs

I bought my iphone used and it's previous owner had jailbroken and unlocked it. somehow I updated it without any problems but it got rid of cydia. After a while I decided to jailbreak it again. I had a lot of trial and error (which involved rejailbreaking the phone just so it would activate) but in end I came up with a jailbroken iphone (by redsn0w) that would just say "No service" in the top left corner and couldn't use my SIM. After trying and failing to fix it via online sources I gave up and used it as a touch for a while. Meanwhile my power button broke. I used activator and assistive touch to function the phone. recently I tried to re-adress the problem by restoring it while it was in dfu mode. I first restored to rid the jailbreak. After that I realized that I couldn't even turn my phone off without assistive touch to put into dfu mode. So I tried to re-jailbreak it. It went well till the stage when redsn0w said to "waiting for iphone to restart". I thought that ment that I needed to turn on my phone. But, with a broken power button, only way to do that was to start to charge it. but it was already plugged into the computer. so I unplugged it then plugged it back in. BAD. NEVER do that. It has been a brick ever since. everything I looked says to put it in dfu mode. I can't do that without a functioning power button. also itunes won't detect it. redsnow can't pwn dfu mode without itunes as far as I know. please help.
