So recently I have been running into a very troublesome problem with my iPhone 5.
I would say about 80% of the time, when I receive text message I get no notification from the phone. No sound, or banner. However it will show the unread message count badge on the message icon. Sometimes I will wake the phone via unlock or home button, and then bam I get a notification on the lock screen of a text message, but when looking in the message app, I have received it some time earlier and just was never notified.
When browsing the web, checking email, etc, I almost never get a notification that a new message has come in...instead I have to back out to the home screen and manually check the message app for new texts.
The weird thing is, this problem seems to exist much more persistently when connected to a Wifi network. I seem to get notifications most of the time when on my data network.
Also, I am pretty sure this is only for text messages, iMessage seem to notify as they should. I have all the notification settings correct, and have tried a clean restore via backup in iTunes...problem still exists.
This is a pretty big problem, as I have missed several important messages recently because I am not being notified when they come in. Anyone have any idea what is causing this? Hardware, software? Is it worth a 4 hour round trip to the closest Apple store to have the geniuses try and remedy it? It could be a problem duplicating this problem to a genius, so I am not sure if they would just brush me aside if I can't prove that is happening in front of them (never dealt with Genius bar before so not sure how they operate)
