more "new" 3GS questions

I received an unlocked 3GS today from eBay. I learned my lesson - this is the last time I do such a thing.

Contrary to what some people said in a previous thread, I was able to access setup without a sim. At least I can access all the icons, including setup and do pretty much everything except make calls. I want to set the phone up as much as I can now - it's a gift to a friend in the Caribbean who has no computer.

I upgraded the software to 6.1.3, apparently the latest for this device. I did so by connecting it to the same computer I use to connect my iPhone. I chose "set up as a new device." I was then walked through the steps to set up the phone as a new phone.

However, I was not given the opportunity to name the device, like Fernando Doe's iPhone. It put in my name as the name of the phone. I would prefer it to be my friend's name, i.e., Fernando's iPhone. Fyi, I had created a separate apple ID for Fernando.

I'm having a particular problem with the App Store. I changed the default language to Spanish to see if it worked ok (it did) and then changed it back to English. But the instructions in the App Store, like "update all" still appear in Spanish. Everything else seems to be in English. And, before I was able to access the App Store, I was asked for my apple ID, not Fernando's. As mentioned, I created one for my friend. I tried resetting to no avail.

Whew, maybe I should just call Apple and spend the $50 or whatever it is.

Thanks for any help.
