Weird charging issues with iphone 4S

Hello forums, this is my first post here so please forgive me if I leave out anything important.

I have an iPhone 4S that has been acting very strangely for a while. I've tried finding a solution to it myself, but haven't been able to so far.

First some short background info: My phone is running iOS 6.0.1., it was jailbroken back in february (i think) when the evasi0n jailbreak was released. But this problem has persisted through other jailbreaks and even when I was running Apples own 6.0.1, so I don't think it's related to this.

The actual problem
1. If I connect the phone to a wall charger, nothing happens (the phone doesn't start charging like expected.) However, if I hold the home button/sleep button until the apple logo appears (i guess that's a regular reset) _with_ the cable still connected, it will charge fine when the phone is back up. This is working very consistently. I've had to do this every time I want to charge the phone for about a year now.
2. If I connect the phone to a PC using USB, it seems to have this sweet spot where it does charge. I kinda have to bend the connector a bit upwards. It is not possible to do the reset trick to get it to charge when it's connected to a computer, but i can always get it to charge by twisting the cable a bit, but it's very unstable. Copying a big file to the computer over USB is a real nailbiter, as the connection might be lost at any time. (I'm usually holding my breath when I do this. Performing a jailbreak is even more nervewrecking...you don't want the phone to lose connection in the middle of a flashing process;)
3. Once in a while (really rare) it charges directly when i connect the wall charger (It feels like I win the lottery every time, i don't have to wait 15 seconds for the reset, yay!) Note that juggling the cable around after it is connected to the wall never seems to work. It's only when it's connected to a computer that it can get power without resetting.

I do prefer using the wall charger method, since after the reset, I don't have to fear that the phone will stop charging unless I accidentally unplug the phone. Then I'll have to go over the reset routine all over again.

I used to believe that this was a software error, since the charging always works after the reset, but since the problem has persisted over several jailbreaks/ios upgrades i'm starting to think it's more likely some weird hardware issue. The dock connector definitely seems to be acting strangely:)

Either way I should probably go to a local Apple store, but I assume they won't be very helpful since the phone has been jailbroken. Also, I don't really want to restore the phone, as I probably won't be able to get it jailbroken again (at least not until iOS 7 is out, and even then..the JB-developers might not care much about A4 devices anymore...;)

Does anyone have any experience with problems similar to this? Any tips as to what I should do/try? Any thoughts on whether this is software/hardware related? Anything that might help shed some light on why charging via the wall seems to be so different from charging via USB to a computer?

Thank you for your attention!
