Screen only lights when restarting

Replaced the screen on an iphone 4s. Noticed during the repair that the phone had been wet enough to trip the sensor (should have stopped there). Screen was badly damaged and there was nothing on the LCD when I got it. Replaced the LCD/Digitizer and turned on power and the screen came on with the low power indictaor that it was too dead to start up. Plugged it in and that screen remained on there until the phone powered on. Then, it went blank. If I hard reset, the apple logo will light for in instant and then go away. No more video after that. If I screen shot and then look in the pics on the phone, the image is in there so the phone is up and waiting for activation.

I have obviously hard reset the phone.
I have restored the phone through itunes to factory.
I have I have restored the phone back to the backup from before the reset.

Anyone have any other thoughts?
