A while ago a friend asked me if I could fix his iPhone 3GS which was suddenly stuck in a reboot loop. Since that's usually rather easy to fix I agreed. That's where things got weird.
I had no problems getting the phone in recovery mode and restoring it but even after that the phone doesn't boot. I get the Apple logo for about five minutes followed by the spinning wheel (without Apple logo) for about two minutes. After hat the screen goes black for a few seconds and the whole thing starts from the beginning.
I tried restoring several more times both from recovery mode and DFU mode. When that did not help I remembered that I once had a similar problem with my own 3GS that I could fix by downgrading so I tried a few different versions (though sadly there weren't that many SHSH blobs to choose from. Just 4.1 and some 5.x) but I still couldn't get it to work.
As far as I know the phone was never jailbroken so that can't be the issue. I spent a few hours on google but all I could find was cases that got fixed by restoring from DFU mode.
So yeah, any ideas what could be wrong with that phone?
