I've had problems in the past involving iTunes and my computer, and I've always thought it was just my iPhone 4S having some corrupt file on the backup that I hadn't messed with in over a month. I got the iPhone 5, and thought everything would be better, in October. Today marks the first time I even thought of backing up my phone, and now I'm getting the same errors that I got with the 4S and iTunes 10.6, but now with the 5 and 11.0.1.
Basically, it's always the same errors, the phone tries to backup, iTunes stops after about 10 minutes with the display "iTunes could not backup the iPhone, "William's iPhone 5" because an error occured.
•I've renamed one of the backup folders to "backup.sav" as I've seen in another thread on Apple's support forums, at the end of the MobileSync folder in Application Support.
•I've completely reinstalled iTunes several times, to Apple's suggestions.
•I've even tried backing up on a different user, but nothing seems to work.
What could be wrong with iTunes? I've had this issue since August 2012. Clearly, it isn't a hardware issue, because this is the first time I've ever backed up my 5, and I've done nothing big to it, hell, I even got rid of 2.9K pictures yesterday before backing up to make sure it was problem-free.
I'm running ML 10.8.2, and iTunes 11.0.1 on a late-2009 iMac.
*Edit: I tried to backup on my Macbook Pro only for it to fail as well. The MBP hasn't been through nearly as many files changes as the iMac, which kind of makes me think it's an iPhone issue. I can't, for the life of me, think of what, the phone has NEVER even been backed up in it's 4 months of existence.
