Logic Board or LCD???

A friend just gave me their unresponsive iphone 4 (GSM) and I think I have narrowed down the issue to 2 possible causes: 1) the logic board or 2) the LCD screen. However, I am leaning towards a logic board issue.

The phone is stck in a restore loop, and I have tried tiny umbrella, ireb and a lot of other suggestions on this forum that I have read, but nothing has worked to get this phone up and running.

My question: If the LCD was bad, would it even display the apple logo, the itunes/USB logos? I see these logos when I plug the phone into itunes before putting the phone into DRM black screen mode while trying to do a shift/restore system recovery. The only life I have been able to get afte this is only the solid white screen. I would think that if the LCD were bad, it would not display logos?

The person I received the phone from said that before the phone died, they were seeing occasional red screens, and lines. The phone took its last breath when they were texting a photo to someone. To the best of my knowledge the phone did not experience any water damage etc....

I have thought about taking out the logic board from my working GSM iphone and trying it in the non-working phone to see what happens, but do not really want to disassemble my working iphone. I also fear hooking my working logic board to a non-working phone and somehow corrupting the good logic board.

Any suggestions??
