I threw my phone into the river while hiking, quite involuntarily, because I am a sissy and was attacked by giant angry insects that went down my shirt and bit my boobs.
I had a case on it that plugged up the dock connecter, headphone jack, etc. with silicone and kept water out perfectly, but not the speaker, microphone or ear 'speaker' (receiver? I dunno).
It was face down in shallow water, for just a couple seconds and I dabbed those areas out immediately, kept it favourable to gravity drawing water out/away from phone, and kept holding tissue on there for awhile; and it really looked like the grill/screen material was keeping the water out very very well.
The phone was on the whole time, and I didn't turn it off, I tested everything out immediately (generally a no-no, i know...)
It's been a couple weeks and I have had no symptoms of water damage, not a single glitch with my phone whatsoever, no overheating or charging problems and I sound fine during calls, music sounds good, and people sound fine to me, etc. Except, text messages are now taking from 30 minutes to 2 days to get to me. I've been noticing/testing this out with family, 2 members who are on different carriers as well.
Ive had that happen from time to time well before the incident. But now it is pretty much every time. My texts will be received almost always normally but I get theirs delayed. 2 days delayed really kind of sucks when you're trying to figure out what door to meet your sister at in the mall etc. I spent 2 days waiting at entrance 3....:-P Ok, but really, it's a pain. I do get phone calls just fine though.
So I am still under warranty. My friends and family with the same carrier are not having the same problem with their phones with text messages.
If water got in, my reasoning is that, especially being powered on still, it would have messed up the speakers or microphone/moutpiece well before it got the chance to get to the cellular...receiver...bits...or whatever you'd call it.
Does anyone know where I can find a good diagram of whats what inside the iphone 4s to satisfy my curiousity? Google keeps giving me stupid pictures of iphones with human organs, or from keynote events telling me obvious crap like where the headphone jack is. GAH.
And any thoughts? Is this likely to be water damage or should I bother dealing with Apple? Or carrier?
