Need help with Iphone 3GS

First of all i'd like to say that I have no idea how to use Iphones this is my moms Iphone that I have never dealt. The problem obviously came when she asked me to update her iphone from 4.1 or something around that to 6.0 and have it be jailbroken. So I followed the guide on http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1470756 and upgraded it while connected to the PC through itunes while the iphone was on. Now I'm getting the error We're sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time. What this has done is made me unable to use the phone and it's gone back to starting configuration, by that I mean when I open the phone it's asking me to tell it the language I use and what country i'm from and asks me to connect to the wifi, which i've tried to do but strangely it doesn't work even though I put in the right password. So basically what I need is help to either restore it to its previous version, I do have a backup on my computer from when it was at 4.x and I tried to restore it from itunes but that didn't work. Or if I'm on the right direction and you guys could lead me there that would be awesome. Sorry for the terrible organizational and writing skills but I'm in a a hurry to write this out because my mom is d surely going to kill me soon if I don't get this fixed. Thanks
